In my latest post, I was talking about a tool to ease your social bookmarking and backlinking of your content. In this post, I’ll talk about another tool I’ve found and tested recently.
If you want your pages to rank well in the search engines, you need to build backlinks, that’s true, but don’t get too excited. Bad backlinks could do more harm than good.
SocialMonkee
I’ve been testing SocialMonkee for a couple of days and this is my conclusion: DON’T use it. If you are currently using it, then STOP!
I started to research the backlinks I was getting from them and BRRR… half of them made my antivirus go crazy and the other half had no page ranking whatsoever, I mean zero value backlinks.
How It Works
On the surface, SocialMonkee seems pretty attractive because it’s cheap to join, only $7 one-time fee. It builds automatically 25 backlinks on a daily basis. In a very short period of time, you’ll have hundreds of backlinks to your site. Those links are placed on 3rd party sites scattered across many IP classes. The problem is that those sites are poor ranked. Their sole purpose is to create a network of cross-linked servers and build thousands upon thousands of cross-linked poor quality links and this looks terrible in the eyes of Google.
These are not high ranked social bookmarking sites like delicious.com or other big social network sites. A natural backlinking profile contains links coming from a lot of different types of sites, like social networks, web 2.0, blogs and so on.
With the latest Penguin and Panda updates, it seems that for Google it’s not that important the number of backlinks, but their quality. If you have massive bad quality links pointing towards your site, sooner or later Google will hit you and will outrank your site on SERPs.
Testimonials
Let’s see what other people have to say about SocialMonkee:

Not very nice thoughts. To be honest, I found also good testimonials but they were rather old. It seems that SocialMonkee used to be a quality service some time ago, but it’s not the case anymore.
In addition, backlinking based SEO doesn’t work in today’s world like it did until 2012.
Conclusion
My advice? Avoid using SocialMonkee. I used their service for a week and I didn’t see any benefit. At the beginning of this review, I already talked about the bad quality of their backlinks. I wouldn’t recommend it.
To your success,
Vladimir Unguru
